Nadi: this isn't the place for a long holiday but with lots of budget accommodation and a chilled out atmosphere, it is a great spot to relax before you start island hopping. Situated in the north west of Viti Levu, Nadi Town is the third largest centre in Fiji, about a 10mns drive from Fiji's main international airport. Nadi is the gateway to Fiji and tourism is an important economic aspect. There are a large number of hotels, resorts and other lodging, from luxury to budget. Nadi provides overnight accommodation options to travellers passing through to other parts of Fiji, namely Mamanucas and Yasawas.

Coral coast: when exploring the main island, don't miss out on the Coral coast. You can do various water sport activities here and there are also great mistakes, villages and jungle adventures. Whatever you are after, a back to nature place or a luxury spa hotel, the Coral Coast is the place to find it. With its crystal clear waters and amazing beaches, it is a great place to stopover en route from Nadi to Suva.

Suva: is the capital of Fiji and like most big cities, it is good fun for a short time. Dip into Fiji's capital and get to know the real Fijian flair while cruising around local museums, beautiful prks and hip cafes.

Mamanuca islands: otherwise known as the party islands, this attracts backpackers and students who like to play. These islands are less than an hour from the mainland. Have you ever dreamed of visiting the paradise where Tom Hanks was stranded in Castaway? if so then don't miss the Mamanuca islands with their beautiful beaches, fantastic snorkelling and diving sports, great surfing options and unforgettable party nights on the beach.

Yasawa islands: if you want something a little less commercial then head up to the untouched Yasawa islands. In the evening drink kava around a bonfire on the beach. During the day, you can either chill out on the beach or learn Fijian crafts from the locals.

Denarau: this is a five-star island joined to the mainland by a bridge. The only reason backpackers go here is to catch ferries to the islands. There is also good shopping at the marina and great bars where the expats hang out.

Pacific Harbour: a two-hour drive from Nadi airport, this is the adventure capital of Fiji. Walk along idyllic beaches, snorkel in the soft coral capital of the world and explore gushing rivers and waterfalls of the lush interior. If you still have energy, why not have one of the most scenic rounds og golf of your life at the Robert Trent Jones Jnr. course.

Sigatoka: situated at the mouth of the Sigatoka River, this city's skyline is dominated by an ornate mosque. Visit the Sigatoka sand dunes and the Kula Eco Park which houses over 100 species of tropical bird.

Beachcomber: are you a real party animal? Well if so, there is your change to prove it at this funky backpacker destination. Beachcomber island is a great spot to party all night then to chill out for the rest f the day on the beach. Navity island: this little island has lots to offer, especially if you want to meet locals. Join the Fijian dancers at Korovou Resort or just enjoy a fun night where you will meet a lot of new friends.

Barefoot island: spend your day on the beach playing volleyball, kayaking and swimming with manta rays. In the evenings, enjoy cocktails as you watch the sunset.

Nanuya island: what would a trip to Fiji be like without a visit to the Blue Lagoon which transformed Brooke Shields from a little girl into an international superstar? Chill out on the white sandy beaches or swim in the crystal clear lagoon.
